Submissions must be in Word format and may be combined into one large file with page breaks. 

Please put the student’s name, center, and tutor at the top of each piece. 

Please write STORYLINES in the subject heading of your emails.

No previously published materials will be accepted (excluding CRW journals).


WRITING REQUIREMENTS:


To be eligible, writers must have been enrolled in a free New York City Library Literacy Program (Adult Literacy or ESL) and consistently attending for at least two months.

Only one piece per writer may be submitted.

Each piece must be a minimum of one paragraph and a maximum of three pages.

Each piece must be written in the writer’s own voice and words.

Each piece must be typed in twelve point font and double-spaced.

The submission must be nonfiction, a personal story, but can be written in any form, such as: essay, poem, letter.

Please submit the piece to the head of your Center by September 29, 2010.

Selections will be made by the judging author by October 10.  Winners will be notified before the event. 

Every entrant receives a book at the October 26th event. The four selected writers will have their pieces read aloud at the event and will receive a gift from the NCV Foundation.
